Read Across America Brings the Joy of Reading to Desert Shadows Elementary
Submitted by Jeff Beasley, Esteemed Loyal Knight
As part of the nationwide Read Across America celebration, Stephanie Beasley of Phoenix Elks Lodge #335 visited Desert Shadows Elementary School, a Paradise Valley Unified School District campus in Phoenix, where she read to 28 third-grade students in Miss Wong’s class.
Read Across America is a national initiative dedicated to promoting literacy and encouraging children to develop a lifelong love of reading. During the visit, Stephanie shared a story with the students and spoke about the importance of reading, learning, and using imagination.
The students were engaged and enthusiastic throughout the reading, asking thoughtful questions and participating in discussion about the story. Opportunities like this help inspire young readers and reinforce the importance of education and literacy at an early age.
Phoenix Elks Lodge #335 continues to support youth and education programs throughout the community. By participating in Read Across America events, the Lodge strengthens its partnership with local schools while encouraging students to embrace the joy of reading.
The visit was a wonderful experience for both the students and volunteers, and the Phoenix Elks look forward to continuing their commitment to literacy and youth development in the community.
