The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is committed to promoting patriotism and love of country. Phoenix Elks Lodge #335 proudly celebrates and encourages respect for our American heritage, our flag, and the principles of freedom that unite us.
The Elks have long believed that Americanism is the spirit of love of country, respect for the American flag, and gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy. Our Lodge hosts programs and ceremonies to instill patriotism in our community—especially among our youth.
Each year, we participate in national observances such as Flag Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day, while continuing to encourage civic responsibility, pride in citizenship, and honoring those who serve our nation.
One of the Elks’ most important youth programs is the annual Americanism Essay Contest. This contest is designed to promote patriotism among young people and to encourage them to reflect on what it means to be an American.
The contest is open to all students in grades 5 through 8. Essays are judged in two divisions:
Winners at the Lodge level will advance to District, State, and National competition. National winners receive recognition and awards from the Elks Grand Lodge.
Entries should be submitted through your school or directly to the Phoenix Elks Lodge #335. For more information about this year’s theme, deadlines, and entry details, please contact our Americanism Committee:
